GLOBAL GAMES DAILY UPDATE:
MEDAL ROUNDS
Saturday, July 30, 2005
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE/ July 30, 2005

Frisco, TX- While some teams played for pride, others had medals in mind as the 2005 Global Games came to a conclusion tonight in Frisco.

Among the day’s highlights were:

Slovenia- 81 Ukraine- 59: Rizvic Hasan paved the way with 22 points, and six rebounds, as Slovenia claimed fifth place, defeating Ukraine 81-59. Leading by two at the half, Slovenia exploded in the fourth quarter, outscoring Ukraine, 29 to 10. Without star big man Oleksiy Pecherov, Ukraine had no answer for the backcourt play of Slovenia. Volodymyr Orlenko contributed for 19 points and nine rebounds for Ukraine.

Lithuania- 107 Global Games Select- 79: Michailo Anisimov scored 27 points as Lithuania conquered the bronze medal by defeating Global Games Select, 107-79. University of Arizona incoming freshman Marcus Williams led the Select team with 22 points and 12 rebounds. But even his sterling performance wasn’t enough to offset the Select team’s woeful shooting (28 of 78 from the field). The loss ended the Select team’s disappointing run with a 2-4 overall record. Arturas Jomantas added 23 points and 11 rebounds.

USA Basketball- 104 Team Texas- 62: In the nightcap, USA Basketball proved too much for the scrappy Team Texas. USA Basketball won their second Global Games gold medal in three years by a score of 104-62. Oklahoma forward Taj Gray, and Duke sharpshooter J.J.
