Frisco, TX- Competition is heating up as we inch closer to the 2005 Global Games championship rounds. Team Africa came up with a surprising victory, Global Games Select suffered another disappointing defeat, and USA Basketball continued to improve their tournament record.

Among the day’s highlights were:

Africa- 73 Team Texas - 59: Africa surprised the surging Team Texas, 73-59 for their first victory of the event. Vassi Bany led Africa with 19 points. Eugene Spates led with 15 points Team Texas. Team Texas falls to 2-1, while Africa improves to 1-3.

Lithuania-120 Global Games Select- 85: The Global Games Select Team (2-2) suffered its worst lost in Global Games history tonight, losing to Lithuania 120-85. Lithuania dominated the collection of US college-bound players in every facet of the game. Jonas Maciulis led the 10 Lithuanian players who scored in double-digits, with 21 points. UTEP freshman, Stefon Jackson led the Select Team with 19 points. Lithuania (2-0) will meet USA Basketball tomorrow night at 8:00 pm in a battle for first place. Select will play Slovenia at 6:00pm.

USA Basketball- 81 Slovenia- 66: USA Basketball continued its domination of Global Games opponents by dispatching Slovenia 81-66. In the three years of their participation in the tournament, USA Basketball has never had an opponent come closer than 10 points. Leading the USA charge was Duke All-American JJ Redick who scored 15 points on 5 three-pointers. Slovenia’s Vrecko Zan paced an even scoring attack with 12 points.

Tidbits
• Former ABA great, Mel Daniels (now a scout for the Indiana Pacers) was in attendance at the game.
• 2005 NBA draftee and former Global Games MVP, Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz, stopped by for the 8:00 game.

Tickets will be available at the box office throughout the tournament. The box office opens one hour prior to the tip-off of the first game daily. All ticket prices are as follows:
