Wright headed to Minnesota FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE/ July 25, 2005 Frisco, TX- Day three of the 2005 Global Games included the unveiling of Team Texas, a group of student-athletes from Collin County Community College and Grayson County Community College, and a nail biter between Ukraine and Slovenia. Among the day’s highlights were: Team Texas- 79 Africa- 57: Patrick Bouli’s 19 points were not enough to lead Africa Select to their first victory, as they were defeated by Team Texas, 79-57. Kourtney Smith led Team Texas with 14 points, (4 of 7 from the 3-point line). Team Texas’s defensive held Africa’s to 8 of 25 shooting in the first half, and 10 of 32 in the second half. Team Texas next will try to slow down the offensive juggernaut of the 2-0 Global Games Select team, Tuesday, July 26, at 3:00 p.m. Africa will try to change its luck against Ukraine tomorrow at 1:00 pm. Ukraine- 67 Slovenia- 63: Oleksiy Pecherov’s double-double performance was the fuel that Ukraine needed to edge Slovenia, 67-63. Pecherov, the 2004 Global Games MVP, made his presence felt, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Volodymyr Orlenko contributed 17 points. Slovenia, behind Zagrorac Sasa’s 20 points, were down by nine with 1:25 left in game, then went on a 5-0 run with under a minute remaining, including a 3-pointer from Sasa, but were unable to close the gap further. Slovenia will try to right their ship against Lithuania, on Wednesday, July 27, at 12:00 noon. Ukraine, now 1-1, faces Africa, Tuesday, July 26 at 1:00 p.m.
